Spring Break

It has been a more difficult winter this year than it has in years past which has many of the students and staff looking forward to a little vacation. I hope everyone can find some measure of peace, if not outright joy, in the week ahead and return renewed for the sprint to the finish that is April and May. Please enjoy your break and return safely on March 30th.

Scholarships for Seniors

With graduation rapidly approaching, seniors and their parents need to be aware of the scholarship opportunities that are available to them. In addition to the local scholarships (listed below) there are several state and federal funding options that can be found on the internet. Some of the most helpful websites include:

Upcoming Levy Projects

As the days stretch longer into the evening and the last vestiges of winter begin to fade, our maintenance department begins the mad scramble to complete all of the projects slated for the spring and summer. Among the many projects scheduled for this season are replacing windows in the elementary with more energy efficient ones, repairing/replacing fencing, installing handrails, additional rock work and laying sod. Once again, we deeply appreciate your support in passing the Plant Facilities Levy that made all of this possible.

Hunter Education

There will be two opportunities in the near future for individuals to either get their hunting license or expand their skill base. Instructor Jake Heckathorn (392-4264) will be offering a Hunter Safety course at the elementary school over spring break. April 1-4, Bob Bash (392-2286) will be offering a Bow Hunter Certification Course with the field test on that Saturday. Please contact either of these two gentlemen if you are interested.

Celebrate Idaho City!

On May 1st, Basin School District is partnering with other community groups to take part in a city-wide “polishing” day. Sponsored by the Historical Foundation, the goal of the one day event is to clean and beautify our fair town for the summer season. Students will be providing the labor for a variety of projects that could include picking up trash, raking up debris, painting/staining and repairing fencing. A hot dog lunch will be provided for them in the park. If you would volunteer to help or donate to the cause please contact the Historical Foundation or Loveta Geesey at Basin Elementary at 392-6631 ext. 240.

HS Drama Spring Production

HS Drama is presenting an adaption of the short story The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The play will be staged Friday, April 24th, at 5 and 8pm in the high school cafeteria. The Yellow Wallpaper is set in the late 1940s and is an account of a young wife and mother struggling with the effects of depression. Due to the thematic nature of this production, parental guidance for elementary age students is suggested. We look forward to seeing you at the show!

Accolades – Academic Awards/NHS Induction

Our annual evening awards ceremony to honor our most accomplished students is scheduled for Thursday, April 30th. Students who have excelled in a particular subject area will be recognized by their teachers. Also on that night we will be holding the National Honor Society induction ceremony. Historically, it has been very well attended, so if your child is invited get there early to get a good seat. Cake and punch will be provided.

Spring Concerts

Music lovers, there are two dates to mark on your calendar! On Tuesday, April 7th, the elementary school will be putting on their annual Spring Concert in the high school gymnasium starting at 6:30pm. The Coffee House Concert for secondary student musicians will be held at the Idaho City Community Center on Tuesday, May 12th, beginning at 7:00pm.
